Sledding:

Starr Hill

Location: Starr Park Rt. 36 in Leicester, NY, Park in the Presbyterian Church parking lot. A favorite hometown sledding location! You can really gain some speed on this decent sized hill. Ask the local kids to ride on “The Grinch” for some added fun. Remember to stop by Gatherings at the Depot for some hot chocolate and cookies to refuel! Admission: Free

Mendon Ponds Park(two designated hills)

Direct from their website- “There are two designated sledding hills located across from the Cavalry House Lodge on Douglas Road, and next to the East and West Lodges on Canfield Road.  Many trails are groomed throughout the winter, which accommodate the more than 20 miles of marked cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails.”

Polar Wave: (Note: tentative opening date Dec 26th)

We seem to always hear Polar Wave commercials on the radio. Here is place for the whole family…and the best part is that they have a machine that pulls up your tube for you!

Ice Skating

Scottsville Ice Area

This is the closest area that we know of that you can go public ice skating indoors. It gets pretty busy on weekend nights so we suggest you get there early. As with any ice rink, it’s nice to dress in layers. Moisture wiking fabric would work great too! There is a place where you can get food and a bar if you want to hang out! Also a pro-shop for the die hard hockey player.

Located in the East End District of downtown Rochester and adjacent to the Strong Museum, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park (formally Manhattan Square Park) is a great spot to take the family. They have also have a heated area which is nice to let the kids go free.

Bill Grey’s Ice Plex 

They are a huge 170,00 square foot facility located on Monroe Community Colleges Campus. Four different rinks to choose from! They offer programs for skaters from those who are just starting out to the most advanced. They also have many different amenities such as a Bill Grey’s Restaurant, tap room and snack bar, and more

Winter Train Ride!

Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum

All Aboard the Evergreen Express! Saturday, December 21, 2013, departing 5:30 and 7:30p.m. Industry Depot – 282 Rush-Scottsville Road, Rush, NY Ok guys- basically a real life polar express. Can it really get any better than that?? We’ve included the description for the “All Aboard the Evergreen Express” from our friends over at the “A special treat for boys and girls of all ages! Arrive at our Industry depot, all decked out for the season. Enjoy hot chocolate while you wait to board your train. Climb aboard vintage cabooses lit by kerosene lamps for a magical trip to the “North Pole” to visit with Santa! After the children are greeted by Santa, you will board the train for the return trip to Industry Depot. Join us and create a special memory for your family this holiday season.
